Today is day 6 of the 12 Days of Christmas drawings at The Stitchers' Village.  The 6th day is sponsored by Picture This Plus and the prize is 1/4 yard of fabric in the winner's choice of count and color.  The 4th day was hosted by TSV shop Lovely Little Stitches.  The winners are posted in the TSV social area forum under the TSV CONTESTS AND DRAWINGS topic.  We also have Laurel's Stitchery and Stitchers Workshop hosting two of the upcoming days prizes, so be sure to check the 12 days page HERE,
My husband really enjoys being the official lovely assistant who does the actual drawing of names when I host drawings for TSV.  So, he will have lots of fun in the upcoming days.  Good luck to those of you who enter each day!!

Final Fabric Orphan Adoption Preview

Sadly, tomorrow is the last fabric orphan adoption for now.  We are talking about maybe making it happen one weekend a month from here on out, we will have to see how the dyeing goes.  We really do not want orphans to happen!  Well, from the dyeing point of view, anyway.  So, here you go, and there are going to be 18 this week!  Good luck.  Remember, they go quickly!  www.svfun.com/Adopt.htm is the main page for the adoption event.  The live link will be posted at 9 a.m. Central Time tomorrow, August 1, 2012.

Week 6 Preview

Oh, yes, let's not forget the Week 6 Fabric Orphan Adoption preview!!

3-Handed Stitching

I took a project with me to work on while babysitting my grandchildren.  My 4 year old granddaughter thought it was fun to help by pulling the needle through on either side of the stitching.  Of course, she accidentally pulled the needle off the thread a couple of times.  Here is the project we finished - Bent Creek's "Halloween Moon".  I used DMC threads.

Week 5 Orphan Preview

Have fun!!

Good Old Summertime!

We realized, at about 9:30 last night, that the air conditioner in our house was not working.  Sleep was not too uncomfortable, but with the temperature expected to reach 102 today, I hope the repair man makes it here soon.  They said late morning or early afternoon.  I will cross my fingers and keep the lights and any other heat producing electrical appliances turned off.  Fortunately, I do have a window here in my office/studio and it is in the basement so it is a bit cooler.
The fireworks were pretty last night.  I can see quite a display from my house.  I was startled a time or two by the size of some of the explosions from the next street over.  I don't know the laws on fireworks here in town, but it seemed as if some of those would be dangerous.  I know "progress" makes available some fireworks that would previously have only been for professional use.  Personally, I don't think it a great idea for the general public to be firing off such large things.  But then, I do not like to find the burned carcasses of fireworks on my deck and in my yard.  It concerns me because it is a fire hazard.  I know, I know - nothing happened, but you can only guarantee that after the fact.
I am packaging and labeling the fabric orphans to send on the way to their new homes.  That will keep me busy and cool for a little while.
There was a snafu on my shipment of the Lizzie Kate Mystery Sampler.  I called in my order prior to the deadline.  I should have used the form provided and sent an email, but I asked repeatedly if I needed to do anything else when I placed the order, so I felt confident.  I have not had any problems with orders before from Norden Crafts.  I wish I had called last week when I saw them post that the samplers were shipped.  It took me a few days, however, to realize that I had not received a shipping confirmation email.  I called on Tuesday and asked about my order.  There was no record.  Panic!!  They are out of the thread packs but have shipped the charts.  I hope the drawing and bingo winners will be patient with me.  I will check to see which threads are used in the first part of the sampler and see if I can supply some to get them started.  Live and learn.  My husband tells me all of the time that I should double check things.  He is a smart man.

Happy 4th of July!!

I am mixing up some Maggiano's Chop Salad for this evening.  I have the dressing in the refrigerator and am now chop, chop, chopping.  I think I'll make some guacamole, too!  Just a few of my favorite things!!  Hope everyone has a safe, wonderful Fourth of July!!

Fabric Orphanage Process

The 15 fabric orphans are all ready to go for tomorrow morning.  I have my process down now, and while I can't guarantee it will be smooth sailing, things should be in order.  I had already sorted all of them into the 7 weeks of 15 each so that I could distribute the colors and fabric types as evenly as possible.  So, each week, I take the 15 and press them a bit before photographing them.  I then name them, make their certificates (checking fabric type while I am at it) and fold and package them.  As I am ironing them, the thought goes through my head each time "that is really a pretty one" and can think of ways to use each of them in a project.  What might look good, what threads would be perfect, etc.  The point of this is that you are very fortunate that I let any of these out of my clutches!!  I thought I would give a preview of the 15 orphans for tomorrow morning.  I realize my blog is not widely followed, but perhaps I will gain a few faboholics so that they can get an early sneak peek at what will be up for adoption tomorrow!!

I spent Monday with my grandchildren and took them to swimming lessons.  It was an extremely hot afternoon, so we spent it indoors.  I had brought art supplies for them in the hopes that we could develop some interest.  At one point, my 4 year old told me "don't talk, I'm arting you", as she very intently worked on a drawing using the dry erase marker and board.

Drawing for Fabric Orphan

There is a discussion in the TSV social area forum which offers an opportunity to adopt this fabric orphan.  To be entered into the drawing, you must post an appeal and name the orphan.  This was done previously and the appeals were very creative!

Upcoming Fabric Orphan Adoption Opportunities

The fabric orphans are ready to go.  The first group is in the basket.  There will be 15 for the opening week. Marilyn of Picture This Plus fabrics and I are collaborating to bring back the fabric orphanage from a couple of years back that she held.  She is busy coming up with the new colors for next year, monthly autos, and dyeing the wonderful colors!  That means someone had to help her, so guess what I volunteered to do.  The first adoption opportunity is Wednesday, June 20, 2012.  It appears that we will have 6 to 8 weeks worth this time.  The page that will hold the link is http://www.svfun.com/Adopt.htm  If you participated through PTP, you know that the orphans are adopted very quickly.  Don't miss out on having one of these in your home!

Village Sampler and Medallion

The first in a new series of designs from Moonflower Designs is complete.  "Village Sampler and Medallion" are designed to represent friendship.  Embellished with a few specialty stitches, this sampler features houses and flowers in the border and a community framed by a rainbow.  “Welcome” is the first necessary message for the first of this series which will be accompanied by a medallion design.  This medallion, with the houses for the border and hearts and flowers they contain, will make a wonderful exchange gift for a stitching group.  Done in Holiday colors, the medallion would also make a lovely tree ornament!

Village Series Designs

The Stitchers' Village has been a challenge for me since I purchased it in June 2010.  Particularly, the addition of the social module, which I have seen grow in membership and now work to enhance content.  Moonflower Designs, being my first venture, has taken a back seat in the past months.  I am now working to finalize a series of designs to celebrate The Stitchers' Village.  I offer here a sneak peek of "Village Welcome".  I truly enjoy my designing - especially when I finish one!!  What would your home be if you could reside in the Village?  I will offer a few ideas in some companion designs soon!  Thank you to all the members who participate and help make The Stitchers' Village a great community.  I sincerely admire all the stitchers who share their beautiful projects.

March in the Village

I attended the Nashville market last weekend and realize that I do not envy the shops.  It is an amazing collection of creative projects and products.  To select which to take back to a shop would be an unbelievably difficult task.  To spend the time going through and meeting the vendors and seeing all that is available is a physical and strategic challege.  Give your LNS owner a "thank you" next time you visit.
March Madness has begun in The Stitchers' Village.  The first act was to put the names of the group members from the "Blackbird Designs" group into a drawing.  Gabriele K's name was drawn to receive the Limited Edition Kit "Wild Garden" which was available in Nashville.
Expect some additional random drawings, maybe a contest, and general fun in the social area of TSV!

The Basics

The January and February birthday recognition gift and the February drawing prize is a set of the 30 Weeks Dye Works colors that are 2 strand and available on spools.  I have dubbed these "the basics" as they are a selection of colors that should cover your basic stitching requirements.  I very much like the 2 strand version and love the little spools.  The convenience is nice. They are truly a treat! The spools are 45 yards and retail for about $5.50.  Compared to the six strand skeins that are 5 yards (which translates to 15 yards of 2 strand) at $2.20 retail and they are a bargain as well.
The February newsletter "The Stitchers Voice" gives the details on how to enter the February drawing and members who have joined the social area of TSV and have registered their birth date are automatically entered into the birthday recognition drawing.
Watch for a new design from Moonflower Designs utilizing some of "the basics" from WDW soon!

Site issues

There have been some issues with the main TSV site. http://stitchersvillage.com  The server moved and I needed to contact my domain company (which I did) to make the changes.  I found that things were still not working this morning, so I have again "corrected" the problem.  Hopefully, it truly is and everything will work as it should.

In the social area http://stitchersvillage.ning.com the Forum discussion "What are You Stitching" has apparently reached it's maximum capacity.  When we got to 145 pages of replies, it started having issues.  So, we have started a new discussion for 2012 and hopefully, it will continue to be as popular.

Mental Note to Self

With a long day ahead, I found it difficult to sleep last night.  While trying to relax, among all that was going through my mind, "Mental Note to Self" popped in there and then just a quick few entries:

Mental Note to Self:

Shhhhh! I'm trying to sleep

Turn that off, I don't like that song

Stop chanting!

What are you counting?
